Silent auction to raise funds for downtown library

A silent auction kicked off this week, to raise funds for the public library in downtown Alpena.

Some of the items that will go to the highest bidder include a handmade quilt, a shawl from the Northeast Michigan Weavers Guild, art from local artisans, and donations from local businesses.

The items and bidding sheets are located on the second floor of the library. The auction continues through Monday, December 19.

Proceeds from the auction will benefit Friends of the Alpena Library. The group is a non-profit organization that supports the library, its mission, and its programs. Members raise funds, encourage use of the library, advocate for the library, organize programs for the library, and assist library staff with various events.
