Larry Lee Ewing, 74, of Alpena, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, Aug. 20, 2023
surrounded by his family. He was a loving, caring, and kind, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and
friend whom will be dearly missed.
Larry was born on January 28, 1949 to the late Thomas and Beverly (Bowman) Ewing in Alpena. He was a
graduate of Alpena High School. He was an over the road truck driver for many years in the union and
later retired from C&S Carriers in 2012. On May 5, 1973 Larry married the love of his life, Judy Tolsdorf
at St. Mary Catholic Church in Alpena.
Larry was also very proud to have served his country in the United
States Army during Vietnam. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 2496 and always enjoyed a good
conversation with other vets, especially WWII. He was also a member of other service clubs such as, the
Alpena Loyal Order of The Moose Lodge 571, and Fraternal Order of The Eagles Aerie 1241.
Larry enjoyed many things such as fishing, hunting, boating, and woodworking. He could often be found
in his shop tinkering around or helping others which he did frequently. Larry had a great sense of humor
and was known for telling jokes. He also loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Judy, three children, Kim Ewing, Sarah (Nick) Burt, and Jessy
Ewing, five grandchildren, Que (Amber) Ewing, R. Kyle Patterson II, Justy Ewing, Ashanti Ewing, and
Mason Burt, one great grandchild, Quincy Ewing, two sisters, Carla (Neil) Dietlin, and Gail Ryshawn, and
several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by siblings, Gary, Marie, Pat, T.J., sister-in-law,
Mary Kay, father and mother-in-law, Bert and Helen Tolsdorf, and faithful fur companion “Buddy”.
Family will receive friends for visitation at Karpus Hunter and Ross Funeral Home on Friday, September 1,
2023 from 12:00 PM until the time of funeral service at 3:00 PM with Fr. Tyler Bischoff as celebrant.
Military honors will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery accorded by the VFW Post 2496 and The United
States Army immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial donation to
