A 43 year-old downstate man was busted last week, for breaking into an Alpena business on US-23 south.
An employee of the business was alerted to the break in by a security alarm during the early morning hours last Tuesday.
When the employee responded to the alarm they found a company owned pickup truck had been started and the back door of the business was open with a light on inside. The suspect was approached and said he was there to pick up his stuff. The employee called 911 and the suspect left the scene.
Later that day the employee spotted the suspect walking near Big Lots and began following him. The employee called the Michigan State Police and the suspect was subsequently arrested and jailed.
Kenneth Charles Gavett of Jackson has been charged with breaking & entering, malicious destruction of property less than $200, and larceny in a building. He is due back in court on November 7.
Police did not release the name of the business that Gavett allegedly broke into.
