The City of Alpena issued 15 building permits in February, down four from January but up one from February of 2022.
The 15 permits were for construction projects valued at a little over $3.2 million.
The vast majority of the permits issued, 12, were for residential projects totaling nearly $139,000. The remaining three were for commercial projects. The majority of residential permits were issued for replacement windows. The largest residential permit of $30,000 was issued to a homeowner on Lake Street for the replacement of two front doors, 17 windows, new kitchen cabinets, and other miscellaneous inside improvements.
The largest commercial permit of just over $3 million was issued to Alpena Public Schools for renovations at Besser Elementary School.
The city has issued 34 building permits through the first two months of the year for projects valued at $7.4 million dollars. That compares to the same timeframe last year when 26 permits were issued for projects of $2.8 million.
The city has collected a little over $87,000 in building permit fees through February, versus $32,600 one year ago.
