The Alpena County Sheriff’s Office is still working to piece together the facts surrounding a medical emergency Monday morning.
Shortly before 8 a.m., a child in Alpena Township ran to a neighbor’s home to call 911 to report their mother was unconscious.
Upon arrival, township first responders began life saving measures and the woman was subsequently rushed to the hospital. The child was taken into protective custody until family from outside of the area could arrive.
Deputy Rick Rafferty said it does not appear foul play, drugs or alcohol were involved. Rafferty told True North Radio Network that the last he heard, the woman was transferred to a downstate hospital in critical condition. No other information is available.
The incident remains under investigation.
Sheriff deputies were joined at the scene by the Michigan State Police and township rescue personnel.
