PRESS RELEASE FROM ALPENA PUBLIC SCHOOLS:
The Alpena High School (AHS) Remotely Operated Vehicle Team (ROV) won 1st place in the Great Lakes Regional Competition for Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE).
This has qualified our team for the Annual MATE International ROV Competition held at the Innovation Center in Longmont, Colorado on June 21-24 to evaluate our engineering and design capabilities.
This is an amazing opportunity for Alpena students to compete against other U.S. teams and teams from Egypt, Turkey, Russia, Hong Kong, Singapore, and more. In past competitions, our team has placed in the top 5 in the world and earned distinguished awards including the Marty Klein Award for Excellence in Underwater Research and the Spirit Award.
The mission this year requires teams to innovate for inshore ROV operations in lakes, rivers, and dams. For more information, visit marinetech.org/international-competition.
The team will hold a duct tape fundraiser this Friday, May 26th during lunch at AHS from 11 AM-12:30 PM. AHS Principal Mr. Bourdage and 5 other staff will be duct taped to the wall. Students can purchase 3 feet of tape for $5.
The team is seeking community support for their trip to the International MATE competition. Donors can send a check or click HERE.
