AAA will once again offer drinkers an opportunity to get home safely over the Thanksgiving Day holiday weekend, through its Tow to Go program.
When called, AAA dispatches a tow truck to transport would-be impaired drivers and their vehicles to a safe location within a 10 mile radius.
Tow to Go goes into effect at 6 p.m. Wednesday, and continues through 6 a.m. Monday. While not available in all rural areas, Tow to Go is being offered in Alpena and other parts of northeast Michigan. To get a ride home and a tow, call 855-2-TOW-2-GO or 855-286-9246.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says crash data from the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, from 2016-2020, shows over 800 people nationwide died in crashes involving a drunk driver.
AAA has offered Tow to Go during major holidays for almost 25 years. During that time, the agency has removed more than 25,000 impaired drivers from the road.
