PRESS RELEASE FROM THE OSCODA COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE:
On September 14, 2023 at approximately 11 p.m., the Oscoda County Sheriff’s Office was advised of a possible vehicle crash on Thompson Road, south of Cherry Creek Road in Big Creek Township, Mio.
Deputies, EMS personnel and other first responders responded to the scene. Upon arrival, officers found a 2006 Chevy Silverado pickup, silver in color, in the east ditch. Preliminary investigation shows that the Chevy pickup was southbound on Thompson Road and had driven off of the roadway to the right and them swerved to the left and travelled into the ditch, striking some trees and rolling over.
The vehicle was occupied by two male subjects, one being the driver – a 22 year-old Westphalia, MI. man, and the passenger – a 22 year-old Pierson, MI. man.
Officers and other first responders attempted to render aid to the passenger, but the Pierson, MI man had succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene.
The driver was transported to Grayling, MI for treatment; and later arrested on charges and transported to the Oscoda County Sheriff’s Office.
Alcohol and speed appear to have been a factor, with the matter being turned over to the Oscoda County prosecutor for possible charges. The matter remains under investigation and no names are being released at this time.
Also assisting at the scene were Oscoda County EMS, Tri-Township Fire Department, and a Michigan State Police accident investigator.
