The Salvation Army of Alpena County wants to make sure every child returns to school next month, with all the supplies they need to succeed in the classroom.
The agency is hosting a Stuff the Bus event to collect back to school supplies for children who come from families in need.
The collection event will be held Friday August 6 – Sunday, August 8 at Walmart. A large box will be placed in the entrance area of the store for items to be dropped off throughout the weekend. Items needed include three inch three-ringed binders, college spiral notebooks, glue bottles, composition books, college and wide paper filler, markers, index cards, scissors and highlighters.
The Salvation Army is working in partnership with United Way of Northeast Michigan, which is also holding a Stuff the Bus event the same weekend, at Walgreens.
Supplies will be distributed to families at the Salvation Army community center on N. Second Avenue on Thursday, August 26, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Supplies will be available for children in grades 1-12. Families must bring identification for each child and proof of the grade they will be entering. For questions call 358-2769.
The Salvation Army has provided back packs to students for over 10 years. During that time, it has distributed over 2,000 back packs full of supplies.
