Five candidates have surfaced for two seats on the Alpena Municipal Council.
The filing deadline for candidates came and went at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
The two seats belong to incumbent councilwomen Cindy Johnson and Amber Hess. Johnson is seeking another term but Hess is searching for a new home outside the city limits and has decided not to run again.
The list of challengers includes Ashley Wilmot, Karol Walchak, Tracie Schaedig and Kevin Ginter.
The top two vote getters out of all five candidates will win the seats during the November election.
Council members serve 4-year terms. They currently earn $6,000 annually. The mayor is paid $8,000.
