While the average price for a gallon of gasoline in Michigan is down slightly, prices in the Alpena area spiked Monday.
AAA says the new statewide average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas is about $2.80, down 2 cents over the week.
The new average is still about $1.28 higher than this time last year.
Of the cities it surveys, AAA found the highest price for gas in Marquette where drivers are paying an average of $2.91 per gallon. The lowest price of $2.73 was found in Traverse City.
As of early Tuesday morning, motorists in the Alpena area were paying an average of $2.99 for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel, up 18 cents from one week ago.
