GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL:

Alpena was back on diamond Thursday, following a hiatus caused by the coronavirus. The Wildcats had no trouble beating Cheboygan in a doubleheader, 9 to 2 and 12 to 1.

The Hillman girls also won easily, beating Posen 12 to 0 and 10 to 4.

And Rogers City and Oscoda split a twin bill. The Hurons took game one 10 to 5; and the Owls bounced back with a 14 to 4 win.

Alcona took two games from Hale, 13 to 3 and 16 to 6.

Mio and Atlanta split a pair of lopsided games. Mio won 16 to 1 and then lost 17 to 8.

BOYS HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL:

Alcona swept Hale in an afternoon twin bill in Hale, 12 to 2 and 13 to 2.

Mio beat Atlanta in a home doubleheader, 4 to 3 and 11 to 2.

GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER:

Cadillac came to Wildcat Stadium and left with a 5 to 0 win over Alpena.

OTHER SPORTS:

Alpena Community College has selected new men’s and women’s head coaches for their respective basketball teams. Bobby Allen will take over the top spot for the men; and Cindy DeRocher has been named the women’s coach.
