Snowmobiler seriously injured after striking trees near Lewiston

A 53 year-old downstate man was seriously injured Sunday, when his snowmobile struck some trees near Lewiston.

Deputies with the Oscoda County Sheriff’s Office were sent to the crash on Eastwood Road, approximately a half-mile east of Townline Road, shortly before 1:30 in the afternoon.

They were told the lone operator was driving on Eastwood when he failed to negotiate a slight curve, went off the road and struck a group of trees.

The man was identified as Thomas Davis of Van Buren Township, which is located near Ypsilanti. Davis was taken to a hospital and later air-lifted to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. He was listed in critical but stable condition on Monday.

Police said speed played a “major factor in the crash.”
