The City of Alpena will be unveiling a Facebook page later this spring, and some would say it is long overdue.
City Manager Rachel Smolinski is spearheading the project and recently told the municipal council it is “essential the city use a multi-faceted approach to distribute accurate information;” and that a lack of a social media presence “leaves a gap in our ability to get information out to multiple audiences.”
Smolinksi spent the past few months gathering information on social media policies from other municipalities and used that information to create a policy that sets social media activity expectations on the new site for both city employees and visitors.
“I think this is a good move for the city going forward and probably long overdue,” said Mayor Matt Waligora.
Smolinski hopes to have the city’s Facebook page up and running sometime in April.
