Huron-Manistee National Forests issuing free firewood permits through mail

Residents of northeast Michigan who use wood to heat their homes can receive a free firewood permit through the Huron-Manistee National Forests.

Permits allow citizens to harvest up to 15 cords of firewood during 2021. They are being issued through the mail only to ensure social distancing is maintained.

To request a free firewood permit contact the ranger station in Mio at 989-826-3252; or the ranger station in Oscoda at 989-739-0728.

Interested parties will need to provide their full name, address, license plate number, and amount of firewood desired.
