Shoppers in the Alpena area will soon have another option for all their hardware needs.
Ace Hardware is returning to Alpena this summer.
The approximate 12,000 square foot store is under construction on US 23 north, next to Dean Arbour Ford, on the site of the former Fletcher Motel. It will be locally owned and operated and associated with the Rogers City Ace Hardware, which has been operating for over 18 years.
The new store is expected to be open around late June or early July, and no later than mid-summer. There will be two buildings on the site, the main store and then a smaller warehouse on the backside.
Bill Kelly is a spokesperson for the project and said the Ace Hardware store and parking lot will use about half of the five acre site, leaving the other half for possible future business development. Kelly said nothing concrete is in the works at this time.
Founded in 1924 by a small group of Chicago hardware store owners, Ace Hardware has over 5,000 stores around the world with the majority of them independently owned and operated by local entrepreneurs. Ace stores offer a variety of paint, lawn and garden, tools and many other products and services.
