APS moves elementary kids to online learning due to more COVID & less staff

Two more cases of COVID-19, one positive and one probable, along with a staffing shortage has led Alpena Public Schools to the decision to temporarily move all elementary students to an all-online learning program effective Friday.

According to a press release, the district learned of a positive case of COVID-19 at Ella White Elementary School and a probable case at Besser elementary Thursday afternoon.

The local health department directed students and staff in two classrooms to quarantine. Those quarantines, along with others, and the current trend of the virus led to the district’s decision to transition elementary students to a remote learning format through Wednesday, December 9. Kids will tentatively return to school December 10.

All students were sent home with Chromebooks Thursday, along with the student’s login information and schedule for live instruction.

Details on food pickup and other information can be viewed below.
