City receives 26th consecutive financial reporting award

The City of Alpena has earned the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting for the 26th consecutive year.

The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting was recently awarded to the city by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2019.

“This award would not have been possible without the help of my office staff and our auditors, Straley, Lamp and Kraenzlein, PC,” said Anna Soik, city clerk, treasurer and finance director. “Everyone’s hard work and commitment to achieving this award is very much appreciated.”

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
