New vice pres of instruction joins ACC Tuesday

Alpena Community College announces the hiring of Steven Fosgard as Vice President of Instruction.

Fosgard replaces Deborah Bayer, who is retiring from ACC this month.

Fosgard brings a wide variety of experiences to ACC’s VP of Instruction position. Currently he is Dean of Occupational Programs at Kirtland Community College in Grayling, Michigan. His work in higher education encompasses responsibilities as a faculty member and administrator. He also has experience working in the private sector in the manufacturing field. He has won several higher ed awards including the 2014 MACET Special Projects Award for the National Science Foundation, the 2010 Educator of the Year for Collaborative/Teams from TRENDS, and as a co-recipient of the 2008 League of Innovation Award for Alternative Energy Curriculum.

Fosgard has been involved in numerous college and community committees, new initiatives, program management, course development, and developing articulation and transfer agreements with secondary schools, universities, and the public. The majority of his career has been focused on enhancing student success with emphases on student-centered learning, delivery methodologies, assessment, student engagement, and service learning.

Additionally, he has been heavily involved in grant writing and management (including Perkins, National Science Foundation, and the Lumina Foundation); institutional budgeting, strategic and operational planning, facilities management. Accreditation, institutional effectiveness, class scheduling, conflict resolution, and off-campus and university center management.

Steven is married to Robin Fosgard and has an 11-year-old daughter Elizabeth. His first day at ACC will be Tuesday, September 15. Please join us in welcoming Steven and his family to Alpena and ACC.
