Stuff the Bus – Back to School supplies

The Salvation Army of Alpena County is holding a Stuff the Bus event to round up supplies for children headed back to school.

Each year The Salvation Army provides backpacks full of school supplies for area kids.

The Army’s Stuff the Bus event is being held Friday through Sunday at Walmart. A large box will be placed in the entrance area of the store for items to be dropped off throughout the weekend. Items needed include three inch three ringed binders, college spiral notebooks, glue, compositions books, college and wide paper filler, markers, index cards and scissors.

Supplies for students in grades 1-12 will be distributed to families in need on Thursday, August 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Salvation Army offices on N. Second Avenue. For questions call 358-2769.

The Salvation Army has distributed over 2,000 back packs over the past 10 years. Last year 130 backpacks with a total of 3,283 items were handed out. The Army is expecting an increase in need this year.

Financial donations can also be dropped off at the Army offices.
