Detroit man arrested for carrying loaded guns in PI Co.

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE MICHIGAN STATE POLICE:

On Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at approximately 8:20 p.m. troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Alpena Post stopped a vehicle for failing to stop at the intersection of North Allis Highway and M-211 in North Allis Township.

Troopers recovered several weapons from the vehicle and arrested the passenger. The driver was issued a citation for No Operator’s License.

During the traffic stop the passenger began making movements that alerted the troopers. The passenger, 23 year-old Carlos Alberto Leal from Detroit, also had several outstanding warrants for his arrest. During a search of passenger’s area of the vehicle, troopers recovered two loaded 9mm handguns and a pair of brass knuckles.

The driver, a 19 year-old female from Detroit, produced a Michigan identification card and did not have a driver’s license.

The weapons were seized, and Leal was lodged in the Presque Isle County Jail. Leal was arraigned in the 89th District Court in Rogers City on three counts carrying a concealed weapon. His bond was set at $50,000 10%.

The driver was issued an appearance citation for no operator’s license and is scheduled to appear on in the 89th District Court on August 11, 2020.
