The Michigan State Police are ramping up patrols across the state as part of a summer traffic initiative.

In northeast Michigan, motorists will see an increased presence by troopers from the Alpena post on M-65 and M-33 starting Friday.

The increased patrols will continue on Fridays and Sundays through the Labor Day holiday weekend.

Police say traffic on M-65 and M-33 increases during the summer months and the intuitive is aimed at making sure motorists arrive at their destinations safely.
