Community drive to help combat blood shortage

MidMichigan Health will be hosting multiple community blood drives in response to what it calls a critical blood shortage.

The drives will be held in partnership with Versiti Blood Center of Michigan.

“Like so many hospitals across the country, MidMichigan stopped performing elective surgeries and procedures early on in the COVID-19 crisis in a further effort to decrease exposure to patients and staff,” said Dr. Lydia Watson, senior vice president and chief medical officer for MidMichigan Health. “Now, with the continued decrease of COVID-19 cases in our health system and service area, we have reopened our services and need to ensure blood products are readily available for our patients.”

A blood drive will be held at MidMichigan Medical Center – Alpena on Thursday, July 16, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
