What’s the hottest 4th of July on record in Alpena?

The current forecast for the 4th of July holiday calls for sunny skies and above normal temperatures for all of northeast Michigan.

Officials from the National Weather Service out of Gaylord are currently calling for clear skies and temps in the mid to upper 80’s for the Alpena area and most of the region. The normal high is 79 degrees.

According to long-time climatology data from 1917 to 2019, the area has enjoyed July 4th temps in the 70’s 42% of the time, and temps in the 80’s 39% of the time. During that same timeframe there was no rain or just a trace of rain 73% of the time.

Alpena’s all-time warmest 4th of July on record occurred in both 1921 and 1955 when the mercury reached 98 degrees. The coldest temperature of all-time was 34 degrees, set on July 4, 1930.
