Crews for the city of Alpena will begin reconstruction work Monday, on an alleyway between Fair and McKinley avenues.

The project was originally slated for repairs in 2021-22, but was moved up due to extensive deterioration.

The work includes sanitary sewer reconstruction under the alley and paving. The alley is currently gravel and dirt. It will cost nearly $125,000 to complete the job.

In addition to the alley, Fair Avenue will be closed from Washington Avenue to Sixth Avenue; and McKinley will be closed from Washington Fifth Avenue while the project is underway.

The job is expected to take two weeks to complete unless there are weather or construction delays.

To come up with the funding for this project, work on another alley, bordered by Beech, Cedar and Miller streets, will be completed during the 2021-22 fiscal year.
