A 35 year-old Alpena man who was on the lam for more than four months recently turned himself into police and is facing serious charges for allegedly beating up his girlfriend.

Brandon Lee Sobeck remains in jail on two counts of felonious assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and two counts domestic violence.

State police were dispatched to the Corner Depot gas station on Bagley Street during the afternoon hours of February 8, 2020 for an alleged assault. But by the time they arrived the victim and the alleged suspect were already gone. A witness at the scene, however, was able to identify both parties.

Another witness called police after they saw a man assaulting the woman inside a minivan. They said the man, later identified as Sobeck, struck the woman multiple times and then left on foot. The woman, his girlfriend, then drove herself to the hospital.

Troopers contacted the woman at the hospital. She said an argument between herself and Sobeck escalated as she was driving him home. She said he grabbed the steering wheel and she believed he was deliberately attempting to crash the van. She drove into the Corner Depot parking lot where he began striking and choking her. She was eventually able to defend herself and the assault ended.

Attempts to locate Sobeck after the incident were unsuccessful. He turned himself into police last Tuesday.
