MI gas prices up 12 cents over holiday week

Prices at the pumps were up last week, in advance of the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

AAA says the new statewide average price for a gallon of self-serve regular unleaded gas is about $1.97, up 12 cents.

Of the cities is surveys, AAA found the most expensive gas in Jackson where motorists are paying about $1.99 per gallon. The lowest average price of $1.95 was found in the Saginaw, Bay City, Midland area.

As of early Tuesday morning, drivers in the Alpena area were paying an average of about $1.99 per gallon, up 17 cents from one week ago.
