It was only a matter of time before the first presumptive positive case of the coronavirus made its way into northeast Michigan.

An elderly woman from Iosco County has tested positive.

Health Officer Denise Bryan from District Health Department No.2 could not release where in the county the woman is from or exactly how she contracted the virus. She said the woman seems to be in stable condition while recovering.

“I believe there are more positive cases in our communities and I urge the public to follow the Governor’s order to stay home and stay safe,” said Bryan. “Our goal is zero deaths.”

It was also announced Wednesday afternoon, that a total of 59 tests have been submitted across the DHD2 region of Alcona, Iosco, Ogemaw and Oscoda counties. Thirty-six tests have come back negative, 22 results are pending with one positive.

A total of 74 tests have been submitted across Alpena, Cheboygan, Montmorency and Presque Isle counties, which make up District Health Department No. 4. Thirty-seven tests have come back negative and 37 results are pending.

The total number of cases in Michigan has grown to 2,295 with 43 deaths.
