When Alpena County Prosecutor Ed Black is sworn into office as the new judge of the 26th Circuit Court Friday, it will leave a hole in the prosecutor’s office that needs to be filled as quickly as possible.

The process of finding a temporary replacement for Black has already begun. Interested attorneys have until Friday, March 6 to submit an application and other forms to Judge Benjamin Bolser, Chief Judge of Alpena and Montmorency counties.

Bolser, along with Black and District Judge Tom Lacross, will then conduct interviews and appoint one candidate to fill the remainder of Black’s prosecutorial term through the end of the year. That person may or may not elect to run for a full-term in the November election.

In the meantime, Black told True North Radio Network that Chief Assistant Prosecutor Cynthia Muszynski will temporarily head up the office until an appointment is made. Muszynski is not only applying for the position, she has already announced she will run as a Republican for a full term during the November election.
