The City of Alpena has proclaimed January 19-26 Thunder Bay International Film Festival Week to coincide with the eighth annual gala, which kicks off Wednesday, with a satellite event at the Rogers City Theater.

The proclamation also pays tribute to Friends of the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary, the sanctuary, and the many ocean and Great Lakes films that will be shown during the festival.

This evening’s satellite event will be followed by another one in Harrisville Thursday. The festival gets into full swing Friday and continues through Sunday at the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center in Alpena.

The festival is filled with approximately 67 ocean and Great Lakes-related films from around the world, ranging in length from 2 minutes to 99 minutes. Advance tickets can be purchased online at www.thunderbayfriends.org. A complete schedule of events, including times and locations, can also be viewed on that website.

The festival is an annual fundraiser for Friends of Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary.
