A young Ossineke man is headed to prison for a lengthy stay for sexually assaulting three girls, one of whom is a family member.

Damien Barton received 10 1/2 to 40 years in prison Tuesday, on charges of criminal sexual conduct (CSC) first degree and two counts of CSC fourth degree.

Barton, 19, sexually assaulted one of the victims, a relative, when she was only 8 years-old. The two other victims were said to be “friends” and were both under the age of 16. Those assaults occurred between September 2018 and June 2019.

Barton’s attorney, Ron Bayot, asked the court to depart downward from the sentencing guidelines. However, Judge Benjamin Bolser said “This wasn’t a one-time thing or a one-time incident so the guidelines are appropriate.”

Barton apologized for his actions prior to sentencing. He is subject to a lifetime of electronic monitoring when released from prison.

Barton was also initially charged with a single count of bestiality/sodomy for committing a sex act with a dog. That charge was dismissed as part of a settlement agreement.
