A new “Winter Strike” military exercise will be held at the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center (CRTC) and Camp Grayling this week.

Approximately 1,000 participants are expected from several U.S. states and partner countries including Latvia.

Winter Strike is part of the Northern Strike exercise program and offers military units the opportunity to train in challenging weather conditions.

Training will focus on field artillery operations and airfield operations, as well as joint fires integration and close air support. The training exercise starts Monday and continues through Sunday.

In addition to Winter Strike, a U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command exercise, Emerald Warrior 20, will also be held at the CRTC and Camp Grayling around the same time.

The recently approved National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2020 allocated an additional $10 million to support and expand the Northern Strike exercise program this year.
