The Alpena Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is looking for mural artists and business owners who want to participate in year two of Fresh Waves: The Downtown Alpena Mural Project.

The purpose of the project, which was launched last summer, is to “advocate for art for art’s sake and to allow artists and their artwork to really shine and tell a new story in Downtown Alpena.”

Last summer two artists painted a large mural on the side of the
Family Enterprise building.

“We are very excited to see what types of artists apply this year and to see another wall in Downtown Alpena transformed by beautiful, one-of-a-kind artwork,” said Anne Gentry, Executive Director of the DDA.

The DDA is now accepting applications from artists and business owners who welcome a mural on their building. Artist applications are due March 15. The DDA’s Marketing and Promotions Committee will select an artist by the end of March.

Property owners must also apply by March 15. They must approve the final design of the mural but will not be able to dictate style or content.

Applications can be found on the DDA’s website.
