Year in review at the MSP Alpena Post

Officials at the Michigan State Police have released annual statistics from the Alpena Post for 2019.

The figures include activity across a five county region consisting of Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency, Oscoda and Presque Isle.

The local post responded to 3,937 complaints over the year; were on scene of 730 traffic crashes; and conducted 8,819 traffic stops.

Troopers arrested 351 people from investigations, picked up 415 fugitives, and arrested 679 people while on patrol.

A total of 112 motorists were arrested and jailed for either drunk or drugged driving.

“We look forward to continuing to provide public safety and service to the citizens of Northeast Michigan,” said F/Lt. John Grimshaw Jr., Commander of the Alpena post.

Post personnel also participated in 127 community events throughout the year, including Stuff a Blue Goose, the Torch Run and the Polar Plunge for Special Olympics, reading to kids, school events, working with the St. Bernard Friendship Room, child safety seat events and more.


• We arrested 415 fugitives, 72 for felonies and 343 for misdemeanor warrants.
• We arrested 351 people from investigations, 136 for felonies and 215 for misdemeanors.
• On patrol, we arrested 679 people, 59 for felonies and 620 for misdemeanors.
• We handled 730 crashes.
• We arrested 112 OWI/OUID (drunk or person under the influence of drugs) drivers.
• We stopped 8,819 vehicles resulting in the following:
o 2,033 hazardous citations.
o 540 non-hazardous citations.
o Issued 7,455 verbal warnings.
• We handled 241 car assists.
• We assisted other law enforcement agencies 351 times throughout the year.
