Another adjournment has been called in the case of the People versus Heather Windfield of Alpena.

Windfield is a former school teacher accused of sexually assaulting a young, male student over a two-year period.

The assaults are alleged to have occurred from approximately July 2016 to June 2018 – when the boy was between 11 and 13 years-old. Windfield was accussed of wrongdoing in 2016 but nothing came of that investigation. The case was reopened and eventaully she was charged, in January 2019.

A motion hearing was held Wednesday for some pre-trial motions on both sides. During the hearing, Judge Roy Hayes III, a visiting judge from Charlevoix, agreed to adjourn the case until April 22. (APRIL 22-30). This is at least the third adjournament. The original trial date was scheduled in late September, 2019.

The trial was adjourned to give lawyers more time to sift through new and/or additional evidence. In addition, two motions from Wednesday were taken under advisement by Hayes. An evidentiary hearing is scheduled for February 12.
