Grand opening for new airport terminal pushed to March

The grand opening of the new passenger terminal building at Alpena County Regional Airport has been delayed by approximately 7 weeks.

The approximate $11.6 million facility was scheduled to open Thursday, however airport manager Steve Smigelski says it will now open March 2.

Smigelski said the delay is due to “Difficulties with completing data connections and unanticipated changes to the locations of some power outlets and data ports.”

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held in May, once the landscaping has been completed and all of the orange barrels are removed from the property.

The majority of the terminal project is being funded with a $9 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration.
