Deadline nears to apply for 26th Circuit Court Judge

Submitted by on December 13, 2019 – 12:56 amNo Comment

At least three candidates have applied for the judicial vacancy on the 26th Circuit Court.

Candidates have until 5 p.m. Friday to apply for the position, which became available after Judge Michael Mack announced he would be retiring January 3, 2020.

Alpena County Prosecutor Ed Black and local attorneys Lora Greene and Joel Bauer have submitted a judicial appointment questionnaire and other required materials for the position. The process is confidential so other candidates may have applied as well.

The State Bar’s Judicial Qualifications Committee will determine which candidates will be interviewed. The committee will also conduct a thorough background check of the applicant’s fitness to serve as a judge.

Certain candidates may then be selected for further consideration by the Governor’s Office before the Governor makes an appointment.

True North Radio Network had previously reported the deadline to apply for the vacancy was Thursday, December 12. That was based on information from the Governor’s website, which after some investigation Thursday, was deemed incorrect and was subsequently changed to reflect the correct date.
