A public hearing is being held next week, to give Alpena County residents an opportunity to comment on the county’s proposed new general fund budget for the 2020 fiscal year.

The hearing will be held during the full board of commissioner’s regularly scheduled monthly meeting Tuesday, inside the Annex Building, starting at 3 p.m.

The proposed 2020 budget reveals a shortfall of nearly $987,000, with revenues of approximately $9.23 million and expenses of roughly $10.21 million.

Two commissioners, John Kozlowski and Brenda Fournier voted against the budget. They don’t feel the county should enter the new year with such a large shortfall.

The public can currently view the proposed budget in the office of the treasurer, clerk or commissioners.
