Council approves multiple bids

A number of bids for services to the City of Alpena were recently approved, unfortunately the lack of bidders makes it difficult to know if the prices are reasonable.

The municipal council approved bids for gravel aggregate, hot mixed asphalt, rugs and upfitting a police vehicle.

There was only one bidder for the gravel aggregate, and two for the other three services; although a downstate bid for the hot mixed asphalt was unreasonable at over $390,000 versus a local bid of about $84,500.

The asphalt contract is for road repairs and repairs following a water main break for example.

Thompson Linen Service will be paid $67 per week to provide rugs at the Public Safety Facility, the public works service center, and city hall.

The police department is using a new vendor for the upfitting of a new police vehicle. It will cost $10,748 to gut the new vehicle, run cables and wires and install certain components such as lights, a mount for a computer and a partition wall to keep officers safe from prisoners.
