The City of Alpena will continue to use Suez to manage its water and sewer departments.

The municipal council approved a four-year contract extension with Suez this week, which has been managing the city’s water systems since 1986.

Under the terms of the deal, Suez will be paid $125,049.45 per month. The only increase in labor compensation mimics the increase already approved for city employees in the department of public works.

The current contract expires on June 30, 2020. The renewal extends the agreement through June 30, 2024.

Mike Glowinski is the utility manager for Suez and has been in that position the length of the contract. The monthly contract fee in 1986 was $58,750.
