***TRUE NORTH RADIO NETWORK WAS CONTACTED THIS MORNING AND TOLD AN ERROR HAD BEEN MADE IN COURT AND THAT MR. HAYES PULLED THE VICTIM BY THE ARM, NOT BY THE HAIR.  WE APOLOGIZE FOR THE ERROR.

A Green Township man assaulted his former live-in girlfriend for allegedly stealing his pot.

David Lee Hayes, 47, pleaded no contest this week, to a single count of domestic violence third offense.

According to police records, Hayes and the victim had been dating for approximately a month-and-a-half when she moved into his home. On August 15, 2019, Hayes allegedly became angry and accused the victim of stealing his marijuana. He pulled her by the arm and pushed her toward the door to leave the residence.

As part of a plea deal, Hayes is expected to receive a one-year delay of sentence in exchange for the no contest plea. If, during the one-year, he stays out of further trouble with the law and successfully completes probation, the charge would be lowered to domestic violence second offense.

Sentencing is scheduled for January 21.

Hayes, who lives off Jacks Landing Road, pleaded no contest to protect himself from civil liability. He was previously convicted of domestic violence in March 2014 and July 2016.
