Storm dumps near-record snowfall

A strong winter storm Sunday, left a fresh coat of snow across parts of northern Michigan.

According to meteorologists from the National Weather Service In Gaylord, the Alpena area received 6.4 inches of snow, just two-tenths-of-an-inch below the record for December 1, of 6.6 inches, set in 2006.

As of midnight, the area had now received 15.6 inches of snow this season, up 7 inches from the norm.

The next chance for snow arrives late Tuesday or into Wednesday.
