A 48 year-old man with a lengthy criminal history will spend the next year in the Alpena County Jail on a drug charge.

Stephen William Tucker was sentenced Monday, on a single count of possession of methamphetamine.

Tucker and a woman were busted with the drug on September 13 after they called police to report a possible home invasion. A subsequent investigation revealed Tucker and the woman had ingested methamphetamine and reported the home invasion to police after seeing themselves on a home security camera.

Tucker’s attorney told the court Monday, that the woman committed suicide a short time after her arrest; and that Tucker’s own son had used methamphetamine at some point in time, and also committed suicide.

Tucker was given until Friday to report to the Alpena County Jail. Judge Benjamin Bolser told Tucker that if he fails to report he will be resentenced to prison.

According to a search of the Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry, Tucker was convicted in 2004 of a sexual battery in Mississippi and is subject to a lifetime of monitoring.
