Public input will be gathered Wednesday evening, on shaping the future of Mich-e-ke-wis Park.

In a follow up to a March public meeting, the City of Alpena is again seeking input and feedback on draft plans that will help re-shape the park.

Some of the ideas in the current draft plan include a pavilion for the farmers market, pedestrian pathway, additional volleyball courts, bike pump-track, horseshoe courts, picnic tables and benches, bike racks, lighting improvements, children’s play structure, and a redesigned parking lot.

This evening’s meeting is being held inside the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center, starting at 6 p.m. It will be facilitated by staff from the Northeast Michigan Council of Governments (NEMCOG), which has been hired by the city to help in the park planning process.

Additional information on the Mich-e-ke-wis Park plan can be viewed at www.discovernortheastmichigan.org/michekewis.asp.

Tonight’s public feedback is expected to be utilized in the final design plan for the park. That design will eventually make its way to the city’s planning commission and municipal council for approval.
