A child sex offender from Ossineke will remain in prison after the Michigan Supreme Court recently denied his application to appeal an earlier ruling by the Court of Appeals.

Steven Robert Senchuk is serving a 4-15 year sentence for sexually assaulting a 10 year-old girl at his home in late spring 2016.

During the investigation, police found nearly 2,000 child pornographic photographs on his computer.  Senchuk also took provocative photographs and videos of the victim.

Prosecutor Ed Black said at the time of sentencing in 2017, that Senchuk was “trying to groom our survivor into making child porn.”

The Supreme Court denied Senchuk’s application for leave to appeal “…because we are not persuaded that the question presented should be reviewed by this Court.”

Senchuk was convicted of statutory rape in 1990 when he used alcohol and drugs to seduce underage girls.  And police found a computer full of child porn during a different drug investigation in 2001.

Senchuk is being held at the Newberry Correctional Facility in Newberry.
