An Alpena man who admitted he gave some of his prescription medication to a friend has an opportunity to avoid jail time.

Michael Leonard McKay, 39, was recently sentenced on charges of delivery of a controlled substance, operating a vehicle with no license and no insurance. He received 6 months in jail, however that term was suspended for one year.

McKay admitted he gave a friend some Suboxone pills on more than one occasion. He was also honest with police officers who pulled him over on an equipment violation, after he dropped off the meds.

McKay apologized for his actions at sentencing, and told the court he has his prescription medication issues under control at this time.

If McKay can stay out of further trouble with the law for a one-year period, he will not have to serve time behind bars.
