Public invited to forum with Alpena City Council candidates

A public forum is being held next week, so City of Alpena residents can form a better opinion on the candidates for municipal council.

Councilwoman Susan Nielsen announced earlier this year that she is not seeking re-election; and the term of councilman Mike Nowak is up at the end of the year.

Nowak is running for another term and is facing two challengers – Mark Hunter and Danny Mitchell. The three men are vying for two seats.

The League of Women Voters is hosting a forum for the candidates next Wednesday at 7 p.m., inside Room 106 of the Center Building at Alpena Community College.

Candidates will give opening and closing statements and answer written questions from the audience.

City voters are also being asked to support a hefty increase for the Thunder Bay Transportation Authority’s Dial-A-Ride public transportation busing in November. The Authority will be asking voters to support a one mill levy for 4-years, a 54-percent increase over the current levy. The ballot language will be read at the candidate forum, and a sample ballot will be available for review.
