Two busted in Cheboygan for selling meth, coke & fentanyl

Three people were busted over the weekend as they transported drugs from the Detroit area to Cheboygan County.

Detectives from Straits Area Narcotics Enforcement (S.A.N.E.) team received information the suspects would be bringing the drugs into northeast Michigan on Saturday.

Officers pulled the suspect’s vehicle over on the I-75 exit ramp near Levering Road and seized unknown amounts of methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl and cash. A stolen handgun was found in a pocket of one of the suspects, and detectives also seized the vehicle and other evidence.

Ashanti Brian Lockett, 45, was arrested on numerous drug delivery and other charges. Lockett is from Detroit and was also arrested on a warrant for absconding from parole, along with warrants held by Cheboygan police for a sexual assault.

A 66 year-old woman from Cheboygan, Janine Louise Schmidt, was taken into custody for delivery of methamphetamine. She is also a habitual 4th offender.
A 35 year-old man from Cheboygan was jailed for driving on a suspended license.

SANE was assisted by Cheboygan County Deputies, Cheboygan County canine handler, and troopers from the Michigan State Police Gaylord Post.
