Building construction season is still in full swing in the City of Alpena, which issued 69 building permits in August for projects valued at nearly $850,000.

That’s quite a bit more than the 58 permits issued in July for projects of about $521,000.

It’s also higher than the 58 permits issued in August 2018, for projects valued at $724,000.

The majority of the permits, 56, where issued to homeowners for new windows, doors and roofs, along with some kitchen and bathroom remodels.

MidMichigan Medical Center – Alpena pulled a $320,000 permit for a new chiller plant and to modify the existing boiler plant. The local convention and visitor’s bureau building will be re-shingled for nearly $11,000.

The city has issued 313 building permits through August for projects valued at $6.8 million. That compares to the first eight months of 2018 when 293 permits were issued for projects valued at $12.5 million.
