A 39 year-old Alpena man will be sentenced next month, for giving a friend one or more of his suboxone pills.

Suboxone is a prescription medication that is used to treat opioid addiction.

Michael Leonard McKay pleaded guilty this week to deliver of a controlled substance, operating a vehicle with no license and no insurance.

As part of a plea deal two other counts were dismissed.

McKay admitted that after he picked up his prescription from Rite Aid he drove to a nearby business where a friend was working and left some pills in their vehicle. No money exchanged hands.

McKay was pulled over by police on his way home for a minor equipment violation. He was honest with the officer and told him about leaving the drugs for a friend.

Sentencing is scheduled for October 21.
